988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline
How do I reach it?
Call or text
988, any time, day or night. You can also chat online at
988lifeline.org. It's free and confidential.
Is it only for suicidal crisis?
No. The Lifeline is clear about this: you can reach out for any kind of emotional distress, not only if you're actively suicidal. Overwhelmed, anxious, grieving, or just barely holding it together after a shift all count. You don't need to be in a specific kind of danger to call.
What happens when I call or text?
A trained crisis counselor answers, listens, and works through what's going on with you. It's not a dispatch line by default — the goal is support, not automatically sending someone to find you. For what to expect in more detail, see the Lifeline's own page:

What if someone else is in danger right now?
Finding Ongoing Support
I need more than a crisis line. Where do I start?
Your doctor or insurance provider is the most reliable place to start for finding a therapist. Still Kind doesn't diagnose, treat, or provide therapy.
Is there a tool to find low-cost care near me?
Yes. Our partner Hope For The Day runs the
Resource Compass, a free tool that searches by zip code to find no- and low-cost therapy, counseling, food security, and housing support near you. Still Kind doesn't run it and isn't the one providing the care on the other end of it. Hope For The Day built it and maintains it, and it's genuinely useful. We're pointing you to it because it works, not because it's ours.
Is Still Kind itself a mental health service?
No. We're a Chicago community brand, not a nonprofit, not a clinic, not a crisis service. We put mental health at the center of what we make and host because it matters to us and because the people we serve deserve better than silence around it. When you need real support, this page is where that is, not us.
